Vysehrad Celebrates Dr. Seuss' Birthday

On March 2, 2020, Vysehrad will celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday! (This is in conjunction with the national Read Across America Week.) Our one day event will include Green Eggs and Ham for breakfast in our cafeteria, (please make sure your child signs up!) dress-up activities*, reading fun, and various classroom activities for our students! *Dress-up ideas could include having your child dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character! Celebration ideas: CAT IN THE HAT: Wear your favorite hat! FOX IN SOCKS: Wear your crazy socks! THING ONE AND THING TWO: Dress like Thing 1 and Thing 2 or . . .

Read to Succeed

We will be participating in the Read to Succeed program that encourages children in grades K through 6th to read for fun. Read to Succeed is a free program from Six Flags and Discovery Education. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading before the April 17th deadline will be eligible for a free admission ticket valid at Fiesta Texas, a Six Flags theme park. A parent letter with a sheet to record what and how long your child reads daily was sent home with your child. Please keep in mind: the deadline to enter the form information online is April 17th. School History

Vysehrad, a word which means “High Castle” in the Czechoslovakian language, is the name for the small rural school found in Lavaca County, Texas.  The Vysehrad school, established in 1887, is situated on part of the Francis Smith League, located on County Road 182 about four miles west of Hallettsville, Texas on the old Shiner road and about a mile and half north of Worthing, Texas.  The Vysehrad School has remained in the same location since the school was founded.  The number of students enrolled in the Vysehrad School has fluctuated over the years; some years seeing an enrollment close to 125 students. . . .
